Ms. Kay
Welcome to Brookside Elementary School! I am excited to begin a new year with you. The 2011-2012 school year is going to be a great one because many wonderful things are already planned for you and your child, both in and out of school. Be sure to read your valuable monthly newsletters, either from your child’s backpack or online at www.milfordpublicschools.com to stay up-to-date with each school event. I hope that you will refer to both often. The district and school websites include many important pieces of information that enable you to remain in contact and informed all year long, without the extra need for paper! Be sure to navigate the various wonderful links offered through the website. Again, this year we are offering the K-2 Elementary Schools Family Handbook online for your reading pleasure. If you would prefer a hard copy of this handbook please be sure to let your child’s teacher know through the form sent home during the first week of school. Once again we are offering a hard copy of a Brookside Elementary School Family Directory. Family names, addresses, telephone numbers and email addresses will be made available through this directory for those families providing permission to be included. This information will aid in the planning of play dates, parties and even homework conversations. Also, at any point in the given year, visit www.milfordpublicschools.com for any forms, news events, and school functions.

Brookside’s website has many sections which uncover the various wonderful things occurring within our Community.  Brookside’s dedicated staff of 95 teachers, assistants, paraprofessionals, administrators and other service providers, work with approximately 540 children, from Kindergarten through second grade. Our learning environment is child-centered and rich with interactive lessons in all curriculum areas. Brookside’s teachers focus on educating the whole child with meaningful, real world experiences in a manner that is educational, valuable and enjoyable.   Our teachers are committed to meeting each child’s individual needs and ability level. We also encourage you to get involved in any way you can.

There will be many outreach programs for families again this year. I will be sending home a checklist of the many ways you can become an involved, interactive member of Brookside. Please check off as many as you are able and willing to support. One option on this form is to attend Principal Forums. Random families will be invited to meet with me, periodically, to discuss issues as they relate to Brookside and your child’s education. The goal is to use your ideas to make Brookside an even more wonderful place to be! Please look for this form and this option if you would be willing and available to meet with me during the school day. I look forward to these continued exchanges.

In order to become more involved in your child’s education please click on the following links:
  1. Make Parent/Teacher Conferences more meaningful;
  2. Become a more involved parent;
  3. Build a positive relationship between the home and school;
  4. Help establish good homework procedures;
  5. Tips for Developing a Positive Relationship with Your Child’s Teacher;
  6. And have your family included in the Brookside Elementary School Family Directory
Our staff works diligently with you and your children to develop socially, emotionally and academically well rounded citizens of the future. Be sure to visit the tab for Brookside’s curriculum guides to discover the topics explored on each individual grade level and learn how you can foster school related learning at home.

Brookside’s administration and staff are committed to you and your family. It is important that we work together to build a better future for the children of Milford. In addition, it is extremely important that you know how to get in touch with us. The main telephone number for Brookside Elementary School is 508.478.1177. We continue to have an automated attendant, which is a fancy name for voicemail. Please dial “0” for help at any time during your call. You may also dial a teacher’s extension directly at any time during the recorded message. Press “1” to dial a teacher by last name to leave an individual message, press “2” for the Call Back Line, “3” for the principal, “4” for the assistant to the principal, “5” for the nurse, “6” for the Special Education chairperson, “7” for the adjustment counselor and “8” for the school psychologistAll staff extensions and email addresses are available and listed under a separate tab on this website.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT ANY MESSAGE REQUIRING AN IMMEDIATE RESPONSE NOT BE LEFT ON THE VOICEMAIL SYSTEM. MESSAGES THAT REQUIRE IMMEDIATE ATTENTION SHOULD ONLY BE DELIVERED TO A LIVE INDIVIDUAL.

You can also email any staff member by using their first initial and last name followed by milfordma.com. My email address is therefore: kkay@milfordma.com

Thank you for taking an active interest in your child’s learning….and please remember, “Teaching is a work of HEART!”
